SUSTAINABLE LEADERSHIP

- in times of uncertainty May 18-20, 2022 Oslo, Norway

May 18-20, 2022
Oslo, Norway

Welcome to Oslo

On behalf of the Executive Committee and GBFE it is a great privilege to welcome you to the Christian Leadership Conference 2022 in Oslo, Norway in May!

We are living in a dramatic time with a pandemic that indeed has left its mark on the world. The way we work and travel, how we relate to each other and communicate, our trust in media, government, and health care – every sphere of our lives is affected.

The climate situation is another factor which is affecting political decisions and discussions all around the world. Big industrial superpowers struggle to adapt to a new normal, and small island nations are in danger of extinction due to rising sea levels. Poverty, war, and the threat of rising temperatures cause large numbers of people to migrate, potentially creating an even more critical security situation.

This is truly a time of uncertainty. Never before has the need for sustainable leadership been more desperately needed. We believe that churches and Christian leaders can make a difference!
Together we want to explore the challenges and possibilities, share research and insight, and inspire each to sustainable leadership.

Welcome to an exciting conference, welcome to Oslo, welcome to the Christian Leadership Conference 2022!

Sustainable leadership
– in times of uncertainty

We are living in the midst of a number of burning ecological, economic, and political problems that lead to both social and existential uncertainty. This situation poses tremendous challenges to the task of leadership in different contexts. In this conference, contributors from different academic disciplines will convene to reflect on what kind of leadership will prove to be sustainable in the long-term – even if risk and uncertainty will remain essential aspects of the late modern/postmodern condition.

Sustainability may be analysed from a human resources perspective, or politically, ecologically, and economically, but certainly also spiritually and theologically. What insights and concepts can our theorizing about leadership offer leaders that are not obsessed with short-term results but focus on long-term sustainability and the common good? This conference aims at giving intellectual input from a variety of perspectives so as to develop strategies that can respond to new challenges. We have invited researchers to present papers that contribute to sustainable and beneficial Christian leadership in local churches and society at large in the emerging global city and its ecological habitat.

More details about the conference theme can be found in the call for papers and in the preliminary list of abstracts of the presentations.
