Extended programme

May 17 - The Norwegian National Day

May 21 - Sightseeing in Oslo

May 22 - Church visit / excursion

Experience the Norwegian National Day
We would highly recommend arriving on May 16 to be able to take part in the celebration of the Norwegian National Day on May 17. Thousands of festive people will fill the streets of Oslo, and the royal family will greet the children’s parade from the Palace from 10am-1pm.
.
Sightseeing in Oslo
After the conference, there will be opportunities to go sightseeing or visit churches in the area. Some of the main tourist attractions we recommend to visit on May 21 (Saturday) are:
  • Oslo Opera House, Deichman’s Library, and the new Munch Museum
  • Akershus Palace and Fortress with WWII-museum or The Norwegian Folk Museum, «Fram» and «Kon-Tiki» maritime museums at Bygdøy
  • Holmenkollen Ski Jump and Museum
For the sightseeing we recommend to buy the Oslo Pass for 24 hours, which costs NOK 445 and includes free entrance to museumsas well as public transport. You may explore more opportunities at www.visitoslo.com.
.
Visit local churches / Excursion
On May 22 (Sunday) you are welcome to visit local churches or go on an excursion. We will provide information for church services at 11 am. A beautiful excursion is to do a boat trip to Drøbak and Oscarsborg, the fortress that stalled the German invasion in WWII. Costs for boat and museum: NOK 110.

It is also possible to visit Fredrikstad (1 hour by train) with its old town, or Lillehammer (2 hours by train) with museums and the main sites of the 1994 Winter Olympics. Travel costs are appr. 500 NOK and the entrance fee appr. 100 NOK per museum.

For a longer and spectacular trip to the west coast, check out www.norwaynutshell.com. You should calculate at least 2 days for this trip, and possibly fly back from Bergen.
