Welcome to HLT! We’re excited to have you here and hope you’re looking forward to the semester ahead. Below are a few tips and useful things to keep in mind as you get started as a student.

You have received your admission letter by email from HLT. Read it carefully, and if you have not already done so, accept your place in the program.
Remember to approve your study plan in Studd. To do this, log in to Studd, check the confirmation box, and approve your study plan.
An invoice for the tuition fee will be sent to the same email address that you used when applying for studies at HLT. The tuition fees for the whole school year are non-refundable once the study year has commenced.

Orientation always begins on Monday of Week 2 (spring semester) and Monday of Week 33 (fall semester). You can read more about the orientation days in the email you receive from HLT.
Keep an eye on our website for the schedules and programs for the various events taking place during the orientation weeks.
What does it mean to register? During the academic year, you must pay the tuition fee and register for the semester. You are only officially recognized as a student once your registration has been completed.
Registration takes place in person at the school. There will be a registration desk where you can complete your registration and some of the HLT staff will be there to assist you and get answers to any questions you may have.
The HLT administration will be available for registration throughout the entire orientation week.
We use a digital student ID system. Download the app called Kortfri from the Apple App Store or Google Play. You will receive the code (from HLT staff) you need to activate it during the orientation days.
During the 2026/2027 academic year, we will transition to a new system. Until then, Kortfri will continue to be the official student ID solution.

Studd is the school’s administrative system. It is used for everything from your application for admission to the issuance of your final diploma.
In Studd, you will find your study plan. It is important to review it every semester to ensure that you are making the correct academic progress in your program.
Your username is the email address you used when you applied for admission. The first time you log in, click “Forgot Password” to create your own password.

Canvas is HLT’s learning management system (LMS). It is where you:

You will gain access to Canvas starting January 1 (for the spring semester) or August 1 (for the fall semester).
You can find information about your program’s structure in the study plan for your program. More detailed information about how your courses will be taught will be provided during orientation and continuously through Canvas.

There is a dedicated wireless network (Wi-Fi) for students. You can find the password in the Community Room (Fellesrom) in Canvas.
There is a specific section regarding the student Wi-Fi in the left-hand menu of the Community Room.
At HLT, we use exam.net for digital school exams. This means that all on-campus written exams are conducted digitally, and students are allowed to bring and use their own PC or Mac.
What you must do no later than the day before the exam
You only need to complete this installation once.
Please read the exam instructions carefully before your exam. These can be found in the Community Room in Canvas. You can also access the instructions directly via the provided link.
Remember to bring:
P.S. Students also have the option of taking the exam on paper if needed.
Full-time students must have at least 75% attendance to be eligible to take the exam. This means you may have no more than 25% unexcused absence on each individual course.
Students who do not meet the required attendance requirements are not eligible to take the exam.
Students must submit a written application to have an absence approved as valid (excused). Supporting documentation is usually required.

Rules for Absence from Exams
If you are unable to attend an exam due to illness, you may apply to have your absence approved as valid (excused).

If your absence is approved in connection with written assignments, you may also apply for an extended submission deadline. The extension is intended to compensate for the number of days you were absent, subject to the following maximum limits:
Please note that students who receive an extended submission deadline should expect delayed grading.
Submitting Sensitive Documents
Applications (written in free format) and medical certificates containing sensitive personal information must be submitted through the secure upload portal:
Secure upload of documents are done via Studd.
After uploading your documents, you should also send an email to eksamen@hlt.no informing them that the documents have been uploaded, as the system currently does not send automatic notifications.
Students with an approved valid absence from a previous exam are exempt from the make-up exam fee.

Student Ombud (Student Advocate)
The Student Ombud is an independent advisor who provides free and confidential guidance on your rights and responsibilities as a student. They can help with issues related to exams, appeals, academic matters, and your learning environment.
