HLTs history

It all started in 1910…

HLT is a government-approved college that offers studies in theology, religion and leadership. All our programs qualify for support from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund.

The Norwegian School of Leadership and Theology (HLT) as it is today was founded in 2008. The school was built on and continues the mission of the Norwegian Baptist Theological Seminar (BTS) of providing theological education since 1910. The school had at the time approval as a college with teaching and examination rights at the bachelor level. Kai Tore Bakke was the last principal at BTS, and was also the first principal of HLT. Today the school is a modern growing institution with an increasing number of students.

The school is owned and operated jointly by the Norwegian Baptist Union and Filadelfia Church Oslo on behalf of the Pentecostal movement in Norway. Together we carry with us a Free Church heritage marked by spiritual power, mission, volunteerism and responsibility to society. At HLT we are not two different denominations, but a group of people, rooted in the Commission that wants to serve God in the world we live in. We want to equip people for church and society. People that in a positive way can build viable communities around them. Therefore we can say that we have been characterized from the start by the love of Christ and the dream of the unified people of God.

HLT has grown strongly since its foundation in 2008 and offers several Bachelor, Master and one-year programs in Norwegian, in addition to a bachelor’s in theology and leadership, and two bachelors in English; theology and leadership, and Religion and social science.

Though our address is located on the idyllic banks of the Oslofjord at Stabekk, due to expansion plans we are currently located at St. Olavs gate 24, 0166 Oslo
